The topic for July has been set by the winner of the April 2016 competition Peter Barnett who has commented as follows …
“My theme for July has been influenced by listening to the play Boswell’s Life of Pinter on Radio Four, which, rather than being seen as a time traveller, Boswell was displaced in time with a characterised Boswell meeting a characterised Pinter, An mp3 of the recorded BBC programme may be downloaded here … http://www.mediafire.com/download/qwg39dnyk5x5hfb/S01E03.mp3).
The chosen theme is a characterisation of time displacement, forward, backward or both: Romance, science fiction, any genre, any time period(s) and any format you like.
What do you think would happen if your character or characters (which could include yourself) are displaced in time by years or even just seconds, minutes, perhaps?
Would they remember or not be aware of the time displacement?
Maybe like Boswell’s characterisation they are simply shifted out of their own time and into another one. Or maybe they can switch between time zones, either willingly or not.
The story does not necessarily have to include the present time.
Note to Atiller – It will not be sufficient simply to plagiarise “The Time Machine”, and I have hidden the video of “Groundhog Day”.
Closing date for entries will be Midnight on Sunday the 31st of July 2016.
The period for receiving votes will be announced when the competition closes, and votes will not be accepted until after the competition closes.
The “prize” for winning this July competition will be to set the topic for September 2016.

Well, after much thought and mind changing I’ve decided to take a break from the group for a while. I seem to have run out of ideas despite July and August offering really interesting topics. Writers block? Perhaps, I hope so, or what am I going to do on long dark winter afternoons.? So I’ll bid you all a fond farewell and good luck with your stories.

I hope it’s not really “farewell” but just “au revoir”. Don’t go away completely! You can always read and comment on our stories each month and maybe be inspired once in a while. More time for dog walking, though! Au revoir, Cap’n.

Gestating yes. I had to look the egg up – hmm – The Great Vacumn? However, I now find I have an idea about Peter’s topic so it might turn out to be a very brief au revoir, partly due to the kind remarks.

I won’t be entering a story this month. I was completely bamboozled by Peter’s choice of topic and couldn’t get my head round it at all.
Is it me, or has something been lost in our move from the Telegraph? If a web site can have an atmosphere, ours seems less vibrant and fun. When we’re more au fait with it I hope things will pick up.

It does seem very formal and not always easy to navigate. But, as you say it might pick up.

You might like to read Ben Elton’s book, ‘Time and time again’ to get some inspiration for your story. It is a very unlikely tale about travelling back in time to stop the First World War but written with enough humour not to take itself too seriously, also a film I saw recently with Bill Nighy about a family where the males can time travel, very enjoyable and inspiring- It would be a pity if you stopped contributing, your stories are consistently good.

I too find this more complicated than the old system but I think I’ve got the hang of it.
Persevere and you will get there.

Time travel – I now have an idea – just as well I’m already 1,800 words into it.

I’ve been neglecting my writing this month, but hope to pick it up again soon. I think if we persevere with the website together with the Bleda’s bar on Facebook we should hopefully be able to keep it going. But, if anyone has any better suggestions on where the group could be hosted, I am willing to try. Hope to see you back soon, Capucin and Lost!

I can’t say that i am happy with the way that this comment has had to be posted, I suppose I must be doing something wrong. But my paperback story can be found on this link https://atiller22.wordpress.com/2016/07/30/an-entry-for-the-july-2016-tcwg-competition/

Despite the fact that I like writing time travel stories, this time I struggled to find an idea until I thought of concentrating on time displacement. I hope this meets the brief because, though somewhat far-fetched, it’s something that could just about happen.

Looking forward to this month’s stories, and thank you Peter for a topic that took me well out of my comfort zone.

After all my excuses, false starts and the like, a comment by Colmore jogged my memory and I remembered one I wrote earlier which I have changed slightly. I don’t know if I have ever submitted it before to TCWG, but here it is:
