The deadline for entries into the May/June 2016 Creative Writing Competition passed at Midnight on the 21st. June. Under the difficult circumstances of the past few weeks there has been a remarkably good response that both augers well for the future and has served to humble YKW, who by losing his half-finished story down the back of the settee has been shown to be well off the pace. 🙂
The topic for the stories was set by the winner of the March 2016 competition, Lostinwords who commented as follows …
“It came to me that my choice for May will be “On The Road”. Your story could be about tramps, hitch-hikers, itinerant workers, wandering minstrels, gypsies – anyone whose home is the road. There are those who are on the road to somewhere while others are getting away. Then there are those whose job is tied to the road – drivers of buses, lorries, cabs for example. I think there’s plenty of scope here. So, jump into your automobile, turn up the music volume, fold the roof down and speed off into the unknown. As Leonard Cohen wrote: “You try the handle of the road, it opens, do not be afraid”.

Thank you to the 12 writers who have entered a story, and thanks are due in advance to all those group members who I hope will now support the competition by reading the stories and registering their vote in the form of a comment below on this post.

VOTING PROCEDURE

As in previous months, when voting it would help if voters would make sure to quote the name of the story when posting their vote.
Voting can now commence and will continue until 11 p.m. on THURSDAY the 30th. of June 2016.
There are no restrictions as to who is allowed to vote, all that is asked is that the voter reads all the stories and votes according to their preference. A brief reason for the choice is welcome but not mandatory.
Voters are requested to vote 5 points for first place, 3 points for second, and 1 point for third place.
Please do not submit any other point combinations such as 3/3/3, 4/4/1, 5/2/2, etc.
Writers are requested not to vote for any of their own entries. There will be no detailed summaries posted as to how the voting is progressing throughout the voting period but as soon as possible after voting closes a tabulated list of results will be posted separately and the winner declared.
<><><><><><><><><><>
Please do not comment at length about the stories or record any thoughts that you may have on them, until after voting closes.
if you wish to describe in detail the reasons for your choices, or comment at length about some or all of the individual stories, a separate page will be set up at the end of the voting period and after the result has been posted.

Pleasant reading everyone. We are off a new journey and under a new flag. There will be squalls along the way and the learning curve will continue to be steep, but the camaraderie that served us so well on the MyT site will see us through, of that I am sure.
We owe a massive vote of thanks to Giselle for the sterling work that she has put in to keep the show on the road, and Araminta has also assisted with solid advice to those on the site like myself who is still ‘doggy-paddling’ around in the shallow end.
I feel that we are at the beginning of a new challenge which eventually will lead to a brighter future. I thank you all for your continued support and for the
remarkable effort that has been put in on every level and by all our members over the past few weeks in order to keep our friendly group together.

Bleda.

  6. I think the winners this month should be Giselle, Araminta and Bleda for getting us to this point where we still have stories to read and vote on.
On the writing front, there were, for me, three outstanding entries. But congratulations to eveyone else for battling through unfamiliar territory and getting a story entered.

5 Points: Seadams. “The Pivotal Summer Of Lennox L”
3 Points: Dantheman: “Long Road To Sjreadalsholm”
    1 Point: Giselle: “969 Miles”

    1. Many thanks Lost! We have also enlisted the help of AmericanMum with the site, particularly when the votes are counted and posted up, and she might agree to work on the site layout in coming weeks to make it easier to find the various pages…
Thanks for your point, too! G X

  8. I felt that the stand-out story this month was that written by Giselle, but for the other two places I have chosen stories that it gave me most pleasure to read.
In other words, in order to separate the rest I fell back on good old subjectivity as there were so many of pretty well equal merit.

5 points … 969 miles. Written by Giselle.
3 points … The Pivotal Summer of Lennox L (with apologies to JP Donleavy). Written by seadams.
1 point … Boy’s Journey. Written by ChesterBGoode.

  9. A momentous decision…the end of an era…as the plug is pulled on myT, the CWexiteers have succeeded in their bid for independence, and in creating an international environment in which writers from around the globe are welcome…

OK, you can all stop wincing…

Honestly though, I’m so happy that all these stories are here and I am delighted by the quality and breadth of this month’s entries. I love to travel, and the range of different settings and scenery, and the portraits of the characters met along the road this month really entertained me. A great topic, and well done everyone. We made it!

    My votes this month:

Seadams: The pivotal summer of Lennox L (with apologies to JP Donleavy): 5 points
    Chester B Goode: Boy’s Journey: 3 points
Angie: Onions make you cry: 1 point

  10. I couldn’t possibly give enough praise to those behind the superb organisation of the new website!

Your foresight is in sharp contrast to certain politicians, who if they had been in charge of this group would probably be by now trying to refresh the MyTelegraph website for the 100th time and wondering whether to restart the computer. Anyway, rant over (while it remains polite). My points this month go to:

    Giselle: 969 Miles: 5 points
Seadams: The pivotal summer of Lennox L (with apologies to JP Donleavy): 3 points
    Chester B Goode: Boy’s Journey: 1 point

  11. As is the custom, Bleda’s Bar will be open from around 8 o’clock this evening for our usual in-depth discussion about the mechanics of writing (but don’t bother to bring your spanner set along), and this and that.
We have an exciting new venue and there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony, but definitely no speeches.
Exactly where on the site you will find it is in the lap of the God’s, but wherever it is I will put a directional link on the Home page.
    Come as you are!.
