The Oxford English Dictionary Login Page. If your local library subscribes, you can access the OED online using your library card.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. Nearly 60,000 biographies of the people who shaped the history of the British Isles and beyond. Again, accessible online using a library card, if your local library subscribes.

American National Biography Online does the same for American history (but I haven’t worked out how to access it).

University of Bristol – Improve your writing. The mysteries of split infinitives, dangling participles and comma splices are made clear.

Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, and more.

Literary Rejections. See what happened to the Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Spy who came in from the Cold, and others!

Writing Tips from the Book Trust.

Emma Darwin’s blog: ‘This Itch of Writing’ covers all aspects of writing fiction and creative non-fiction and includes an excellent writers’ toolkit.

Franck Bohbot’s House of Books depicts some of the great libraries of the world.
