If, having read all the stories, you would like to register your vote for the winner and placings please follow the voting instructions set out below. This is not obligatory, but if you choose to join in, your participation will be very much appreciated.
JUST FOLLOW THE LINKS TO ALL THE STORIES (which are listed below), AND YOU WILL FIND EACH STORY IN TURN.

The deadline for entries into the February 2018 Creative Writing Competition passed at Midnight on the 2nd. of March 2018.

The topic for  February was set by the winner of the November 2017 competition, Chester B’ Goode who chose the topic “Education, School, and Teaching”.

Chester B. Goode was inspired by the following thoughts  by Alan Watts …

“Advice? I don’t have advice. Stop aspiring and start writing. If you’re writing, you’re a writer. Write like you’re a goddamn death row inmate and the governor is out of the country and there’s no chance for a pardon. Write like you’re clinging to the edge of a cliff, white knuckles, on your last breath, and you’ve got just one last thing to say, like you’re a bird flying over us and you can see everything, and please, for God’s sake, tell us something that will save us from ourselves. Take a deep breath and tell us your deepest, darkest secret, so we can wipe our brow and know that we’re not alone. Write like you have a message from the king. Or don’t. Who knows, maybe you’re one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to.”

9 entries have been accepted and links to the stories are set out below.
Sincere thanks are due to all those who have posted entries, and it was pleasing to see entries from previously active members who, for one reason or another, have not been able to compete regularly of late. Also, a big thank-you in advance to all those group members and/or followers who I hope will now support the competition by reading the stories and registering their vote in the form of a comment below.

VOTING PROCEDURE.
As in previous months, when recording their vote it will help if voters will make sure to quote the name of the story when posting.
Voting can now commence and will continue until 11 p.m. on  Sunday the 11th. of March 2018.

There are no restrictions as to who is allowed to vote, all that is asked is that the voter reads all the stories and votes according to their preference. A brief reason for the choice is welcome but not mandatory.
Voters are requested to vote 5 points for first place, 3 points for second, and 1 point for third place. Votes should be registered in the reply box below.
Please do not submit any other point combinations such as 3/3/3, 4/4/1, 5/2/2, etc.
Writers are requested not to vote for any of their own entries, and voters are asked not to comment at length about the stories or record any thoughts that you may have on them, until after voting closes.

There will be no detailed summaries posted as to how the voting is progressing throughout the voting period but as soon as possible after voting closes a tabulated list of results will be posted separately and the winner declared. Voters who may wish to describe in detail the reasons for their choices, or comment at length about some or all of the individual stories, will be given the opportunity to comment on a separate page that will be set up at the end of the voting period and after the result has been posted.

Here are the links to all the stories. (If I have inadvertently missed any entries, or if anyone has difficulty with the links, please advise).

    1. Thank you for your generous points, Angie,
As my comment to Christopher indicates, this was the ‘Readers Digest’ version of the original story … perhaps I need to buy a larger pair of shears. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your most generous points Pav.
As you may have seen in my earlier comment to Angie, a certain amount of shearing took place in order to meet the 3000 word limit. Did you have any experience with Lister shears when at home in an earlier life, and would you recommend them for removing surplus words ? 🙂 🙂

      1. Atiller, the winner……..your shearing wasn’t noticed, it ran beautifully and no! One has never heard of Lister shears, only pinking shears, those kind of zig zagged things that people used to cut fabric with….I was never on the giving or receiving end of sheep shears, its a real art though and is best done by men in kilts (i.e. big guys who can do it in under 3 minutes!!). Enjoy the gee-gees now….

      1. Yo Chester, yes all ok this end thanks and another grandchild next month…….how are your dogs by the way? same ones? Jeep (the border collie) is now 9, can’t believe it, he had a lot of health probs in the early years but is fit and tough, which is amazing to me. Love your stories, Mum’s too, keep writing the pair of you, so glad you’re on here.

  6. It’s a moot point whether or not it’s easier to choose three stories from only seven than it is to choose from a larger selection, so I’ll just settle for saying that my ‘short list’ comprised over 50% of my available choices, and it still wasn’t easy.. 🙂
In order of preference, here they are …

5 Points … ‘Lessons’. Written by Christophertrier.
3 Points … ‘Till Birnam Wood remove to Dunsinane’. Written by Seadams.
1 Point … ‘Mrs. Winston’. Written by AmericanMum.

Plus a consolation HM to ‘A Teacher’s Nightmare’. Written by Gazoopi.

    1. Thanks for the HM, Bleda. I am just sitting here reading through the stories. I read yours just minutes ago. One of us, or both of us , could be accused of plagiarism.

      1. I had noticed Gaz, but it’s nothing to do with me, you’d better take it up with him, Knowing him as I do, he’s not above copying (half his eleven plus exam results were disqualified for copying, and.even his book colouring-in came under review).. However, in this case I would be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt as I am pretty sure that he would look upon a plagiarist as being someone who writes only about the Black Death … so he’s in the clear. 🙂

  10. It is with a sad heart that I have to announce the winner (and the more deserving runners up), of the February 2018 tcwg competition. 😪

In First Place with 23 points (and he will be almost impossible to live with for the next 7 to 10 days), is ‘Out of the Mouths of Babes …’ Written by Atiller.
In Second Place (by the narrowest of margins and after four re-counts), with 22 Points is ‘Mrs. Winston’. Written by AmericanMum.
And in Third Place with 15 Points is ‘Till Birnam Wood remove to Dunsinane’. Written by Seadams.

Thank you to everyone who took part (in every which way), to make the February competition run smoothly, and as always, to AmericanMum for collating the votes as they were posted and who will be posting a full tabulated list a.s.a.p. When this list is posted you will see that AmericanMum’s story (so narrowly beaten into second place) received votes from 80% of all those who voted. I am not able to check but if this is not a record for our competition, then it deserves to be.
Goodnight to you all … till the next time.

    1. Congratulations to Atiller (bon courage to Bleda ) and to Americanmum.
      Many thanks for the points.
Sorry to have been very remiss with reviews lately – often have no internet access as working away from home.
      Best to all
