harvest

A FREE ENTRY WRITING COMPETITION OPEN TO ALL!

Details of the November 2016 Creative Writing Competition.

The topic for November has been set by the winner of the September 2016 competition ‘Lostinwords’ who has chosen  HARVEST.

Lost writes as follows …

”  … over the weekend I saw a folk duo (very good) and one of their songs was about harvest. And I thought, yes, the topic for November will be HARVEST. Anything to do with bringing in the sheaves; the social activities that surround it; narcotic harvests perhaps; an allegory about reaping what you sow. Anything as long as there’s some tenuous link to harvesting in some way.
Drink up thy zider and get writing!

The length of the story in November will be the regular “between 500 and 3000 words”, and competitors are reminded that multiple entries can be accepted, particularly of the shorter variety.
Closing date for entries will be Midnight on Wednesday the 30th. of November 2016.
The period for receiving votes will be announced when the competition closes, and votes will not be accepted until after the competition closes.
The “prize” for winning this November competition will be to set the topic for January 2017 when I am proposing that we will have a lower limit of 250 to 1500 words, giving an opportunity for some keen writers to make multiple entries.

  1. Hi everybody,
I found November’s topic of ‘Harvest’ a real challenge. I tried to make something of the annual Harvest Festival gathering that we had at school in the late 30’s, and even attempted to build a story around a doomed village love affair that ended with a double suicide in the combined harvester … but neither seemed to work out. 🙂
In the end I went for an altogether different kind of harvest.
You will find the story here …

  2. Nothing again from me. I had written a story based around Sam our big daft Boxer dog, but I’m afraid we had to have him put to sleep late on Friday night completely unexpectedly. I don’t have the heart to try to re-write the story as it was very much about life and expectations. But good luck to everyone. Will definitely be back in December.

    1. Sorry to hear that Cap’n.
With all that is going on in the world today, some might find it difficult to understand how the loss of a mere pet animal can cause so much distress.
Those who have suffered such a loss, and there are many, know better.
The relatively short life span of animals (in my own case from cats to horses), is the downside of our relationship with our true friends from the ‘lower orders’.
It is a price that has to be accepted from time to time, but it is never easy.

  3. Here is my entry for November. Since I chose the subject, I felt it incumbent on me to contribute something. But with everything else going on this month, I didn’t even start thinking about my story until 3 days ago. So it’s hastily constructed and the links with “harvest” are, I confess, tenuous.
    One for Araminta, perhaps?
