All tcwg site members (and any other interested parties) are invited to read and enjoy the stories entered in theNovember 2021 creative writing competition.

If, having read all the stories, you would like to register your vote for the winner please follow the voting instructions set out below. This is not obligatory, but if you choose to join in, your participation will be very much appreciated.

JUST FOLLOW THE LINKS TO ALL THE STORIES (which are listed below), AND YOU WILL FIND EACH STORY IN TURN.

The deadline for entries into the November 2021 Creative Writing Competition passed at 23.00 hrs. G.M.T. on the 30th. of November 2021, and 5 stories were logged in and can be considered at this voting stage.

The topic for November was chosen by Giselle (see following quote) and was ‘LIES’ (Untruths).

“Broadly speaking this would cover stories about ‘Lies’, Black, White, or Bare-faced, liars in general, or a particular liar, or perhaps (in more genteel language) to someone who is being ‘economic with the truth’.

VOTING PROCEDURE.

In view of the shortened voting list, voters are requested to vote 5 points for first place and 3 points for second place, as per Rule 8 of the Competition Rules (amended) for this month only. Voters should register their votes in the reply box below. Please do not submit any point combinations other than 5 and 3.

As in previous months, when recording a vote it will help considerably if voters quote the name or the number of the story when posting. Where a writer has entered more than one story they should be voted on as individual and separate entries.

Voting can now commence and will continue until 23.00 Hrs G.M.T.**.on Thursday the 9th. of December 2021  and the winner of this competition will select the topic for the February 2022 competition.

** For the benefit of our overseas members, it should be possible to convert this UK G.M.T. time to your local time by using one of the many time converters available on the internet. Here is one such site  https://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/

There are no restrictions as to who is allowed to vote, all that is asked is that the voter reads all the stories and votes according to their preference.

Writers are requested not to vote for any of their own entries, and all voters are asked not to comment at length about the stories or record any thoughts that you may have on them, until after voting closes.

There will be no detailed summaries posted as to how the voting is progressing throughout the voting period but as soon as possible after voting closes a tabulated list of results will be posted separately and the winner declared. Voters who may wish to describe in detail the reasons for their choices, or comment at length about some or all of the individual stories, will be given the opportunity to comment on a separate page that will be set up at the end of the voting period and after the result has been posted.

Here are the links to the five stories entered. (and if I have inadvertently missed any entries, or if anyone has difficulty with the links, please advise).

  1. COLMORE’S votes for November :

5 points TEATIME IN LOCKDOWN. Written by ExpatAngie.
3 points THE MESSENGER. Written by AmericanMum.
Very HM to Atiller for “for a genuinely interesting philosophical discussion on the issue. Trying to apply it to things I have encountered.”

Please note these are Colmore’s votes above. I will record mine later. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your HM, Colmore, and for your reference to a “philosophical discussion”.
I thought it was simply a written record of one of my daily ‘run-of-the-mill’ sessions of talking to myself! 🙂 🙂

  2. Great contributions everyone! I feel grateful to be part of the ‘coterie of friends’, as Atiller puts it.

Only 2 lots of points to award, so I’ve chosen as follows:
5 points to ExpatAngie for ‘Teatime in Lockdown’
3 points to Gazoopi for ‘Two wrongs make a life’.

  3. Just as a small field in a horse race invariably makes for a better and closer finish than in a race with a large field, so it seems to be with competitive writing as my first reaction was to go against the rules and vote “any two from four and in no particular order”.
However, as the competition requires a first choice and a second choice (regardless of how difficult a choice that might be), here is my somewhat anguished decision …
5 Points … TWO WRONGS MAKE A LIFE. Written by Gazoopi..
3 Points … TEATIME IN LOCKDOWN. Written by ExpatAngie

Plus, along with apologies, HM’s to AmericanMum and Araminta.

  6. Well folks, that’s it as far as the 2021 tcwg competition year is concerned, and all that remains is for the result of the November competition to be formally announced … and here it is.

Narrowly in First Place is TEATIME IN LOCKDOWN. Written by ExpatAngie, with 23 points.
And in second place with a creditable 21 points is Gazoopi’s story TWO WRONGS MAKE A LIFE. Written by Gazoopi.
Our Congratulations this month are due to Angie (who gets to choose the topic for February 2022), along with thanks to all our other competitors, and those who have joined in the fun at the voting stage.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank both AmericanMum for her assistance throughout the year in overseeing the votes and preparing the monthly spreadsheets, and my IT guru Araminta for guiding me on the occasions when I have got lost in the wordpress maze. My thanks also goes to every member of our little group for their forbearance and support, and for making our congenial group such a pleasure to serve over the years.
    Thank you and goodnight.
